A very Wicked Christmas!

So, I don't know how many people read this, but even if I'm just talking to cyberspace, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Lurlinemas, Hanukkah, whatever holiday you celebrate!

I also want to wish the wickedly amazing Jemma Rix a very happy birthday! Even being in Singapore, I hope you have an amazing day, get to spend it with family and friends, and get spoiled rotten!

Me with Jemma at the Wicked stage door in Perth, Australia, August 18 2011.

Elphaba's dress in ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING

So, like I said in my AN, I wore this dress to my uni graduation ball. I saw it and fell in love with it.

I don't tend to photograph well, but it's the best picture of the dress from the night.

This reminds me of a movie....

At the moment, I am.... I think about 3/4 of the way through writing my first NCIS fanfiction.
It's not my first time writing the NCIS characters, I wrote two House/NCIS crossovers when I first got into NCIS during season 5, but I was still a huge House fan and wanted to combine them.

[I thoroughly enjoyed (loved) the first 3 seasons of House. I persevered through 4 and 5, but gave up in season 6 after they wrote out Jennifer Morrison's character (Cameron) and I didn't feel any of the character's were likeable anymore].

I'm really enjoying the challenge of writing a new fandom. Although there are so many references to Wicked in it :D (yes, I know. I have a problem).

I think the hardest character to write is Gibbs, because he's not one for a lot of words or to show a lot of emotion. But I love Gibbs, because he's awesome.

The main character in this fic (In this Life- coming soon to a computer near you), is my favourite NCIS character, the Very Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo, played by the adorable and charming Michael Weatherly.

The slight trouble I'm having, is that Tony has a habit (whether good or bad) or quoting a lot of films, and referencing them at every opportunity. They don't have to relate to Tony's life per se, they can relate to any character or situation Tony hears about.

As a writer, trying to remain true to the fandom and the characters, I have to do that too.

Do you know how hard it is, trying to think of a film with a specific moment/reaction/emotion like whatever is happening within the story? I own a lot of movies, but it's still not easy.

Hence, I'm spending a lot of my time on Google. Finding names of films, researching the plot line if I haven't seen/heard of it...

So, if anyone knows of a movie where a guy is thrilled to learn he's going to be a father, please let me know.

The Vow movie trailer

Because sometimes you see a movie trailer and think "That would make a great Fiyeraba."

(No, I'm not writing it..... yet. Let me see the movie first and think about it!)

Conversation with my father:

Me: [Telling Dad how I put on twitter that I'd had dinner with Louise Kelly, who knows David Harris (Louise and her cousin are friends with my dad), and that David had replied.]
My sister: Who's David Harris?
Me: He's Fiyero in Wicked.
Dad: Whoever Fiyero is.
Me: The prince? The male lead? Starts off with Glinda, ends up with Elphaba?
Dad: ..........
Me: So, you obviously remember a lot of the show then. [I took my parents to Perth to see it back in August]
Dad: I remember the monkeys.
Me: Oh yeah, Chistery.
Dad: The flying Monkeys that could never possibly fly because their windspan is too small.
Me: *facepalm*

That is what you took from the show, Dad? Not "Defying Gravity" or the Wizard, or the friendship, the love story.... just that the flying Monkeys wouldn't be actually able to fly?

I love you, Dad- but I really think I must be adopted or switched at birth.

Question for you all....

I admit it, I am addicted to twitter.

When I first joined, I admit I only did so I could follow celebrities, hear news about them from them, and maybe even (fingers crossed!) get a tweet from one of them to me! But I didn't use it myself much.

Then I read an Author's Note from one "Julia-Caesar" who invited her readers to follow her on twitter. We'd exchanged a little conversation through reviews and PMs on FF.net, and I knew she seemed like a pretty nice person. So, I followed her. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Well, 7, 923 tweets later (at present), I am a twitter addict and convert, who will preach about it's awesomeness to all that are only half- listening.

I've made some of my greatest friends through tweets, who have become my loving and supportive twitter family. (Hi to Julia, Kelly, Hedwig, Alana, Jen, Sam, Micheala, Shauna, Vicki, Liana, Bianca, Jean, Sarah, Amy, Fionna, Holly, and anyone I've forgotten!)

And I've been lucky enough to get tweets from some of my favourite celebrities! (People not in Australia may have no idea who these people are. Google!):

  1. Alyson Hannigan
  2. Tim Campbell (2nd Australian Fiyero, and my favourite)
  3. David Harris (current and best Australian Fiyero)
  4. Lucy Durack (Original Australian Glinda)
  5. Fifi and Jules (a radio duo here in Oz)
  6. Rove
  7. Cal Wilson (Australian comedian... well, technically she's from New Zealand, but....)
  8. Mia Freedman (Australian journalist and author)
  9. Andrew Sims (Host of Mugglecast- HP podcast and creator of hypable.com)
  10. Zoe Foster (Australian Author)
  11. Delta Goodrem (Australian singer. Dating Nick Jonas?)
  12. Josh Lawson (Australian actor and comedian)
  13. Anthony Callea (Original Australian Boq and singer)
  14. Wicked the Musical Twitter page
  15. Wicked Australia Twitter page
  16. Stephen Schwartz
  17. Felicia Ricci
  18. Suzie Mathers (current Australian Glinda)
And of course I have a list of the celebs I still want a tweet from (don't worry, I'm not posting that list today too).

Every time I get a tweet from someone that... people actually know, I get.... very excited (shut up, that's what I'm calling it).

My question for you all though, is- what else counts? Do I have to have my username in the tweet for me to be able to count it? Does it count if a celeb or known figure retweets one of my tweets?

I ask for two reasons:
  1. Jemma Rix, the amazing Australian Elphaba, does not have twitter. Her husband does. He recently retweeted one of my tweets. Does this count?
  2. Jennifer Morrison (from House, Star Trek and now Once Upon a time) was live-tweeting during this weeks episode. As I love the show and am a fan of Jennifer, I tweeted the following:

Jen's next tweet was this:

So, my question is: Can I claim this as a tweet from Jennifer Morrison? Thoughts? Comments? Tweets?

One Night With the King

So, this is the trailer for the movie One night with the King, which obviously if you're reading this, you know is the basis of my current FF.
I'd always liked the story of Esther- I mean, hello, she gets picked to be Queen! But well, as anyone who's read the bible will tell you, they don't go into much detail.
Then last year, my minister at church was doing a clean out, found the book and thought of me (which made me feel special, because I like knowing people are thinking of me). I read the book, and then went on a six-month search to find the movie.
I found it in April this year. When I'd read the book, I thought of Elphaba and Fiyero, wrote down the idea of doing a Wicked version, stored it in the folder on my computer marked "Stories incomplete" (i.e. in progress stories, summaries of stories I intend to write) and that was about it.
When I saw the movie, I knew I had to actually write it, that the story was not intended to be one of those summaries that sits there for six months and then I re-read it and go "I can't write that" and delete it.
This is the first FF I've really based off something else. Sometimes a scene or an idea might come from a book/movie/TV show, but I'd never actually based a fic on something (except my series of Once Upon a time, of course but that's a bit different).
So, ONWTK presented a lot of challenges for me as an author. My first AU fic- which elements of the show and characters would I bring across with me? Which parts of the book and movie of ONWTK would I use, and which bits did I want to change?
There's a lot of political stuff in this fic, which is also a challenge. If anyone follows me on twitter, you would have seen me whining about how hard it is. I'm not politically minded. So, for me to have to write politics... not easy.

But I thought I'd post the trailer for the movie. It might influence you to watch it or read the book, or maybe it might make you really impatient for the rest of the story.

Elphaba's wedding dress from TAKING CHANCES

Example of what I mean this blog will be awesome for, instead of posting links on my FF profile.
I do love this dress. Would Elphaba wear it in reality (she asks like she's a real person)? Maybe, maybe not.
Artistic license! I can make her do whatever I want! (within reason, of course).

Welcome!

Hi, everyone!

For a while now, I've been tossing around the idea of starting a blog (I blame my mum. She suggested it, only I don't think this is what she had in mind).
As a writer, it sounded like a pretty cool idea, but I had no idea what in Oz's name I would write about that people would think was worth reading.

And then I was thinking- I love writing. I've been writing since I was 6 (not FF of course), and I try and make my stories as realistic as possible.
That involves doing a lot of research, including things I never thought I'd ever find myself typing into Google or Wikipedia (like eunuchs, for anyone reading One Night With the King. Or the history of the T-shirt).

And in my research, I come across some interesting/crazy knowledge, which I like to share. And of course there's my ANs and twitter, but I do realise that not everyone has jumped on the twitter bandwagon like I have with great glee (tell me another way to get messages from Wicked cast members and celebrities, and I'll listen).

Then of course, there's the songs I listen to that influence my writing, movies I watch, moments on TV, wedding dress pictures I find that I love and make characters *cough* Elphaba *cough* wear because I'm nowhere near the stage of getting to pick my own wedding dress.

So, I was thinking maybe a blog was a pretty good way to do all of this.

So here we are. Of course, this could be a disaster and I delete it in a month's time and we'll never speak of this again, but I thought as an experiment, it'd be worth a try!

As said in the description, I'll blog about writing stuff, research but also other things that catch my fancy.

I'll try my best to keep it interesting and update as much as I can. I hope you'll comment and let me know what you think!
